Customizing MZ-Tools

Top  Previous  Next

You can customize most features of MZ-Tools 6.0 for VS.NET to meet your needs. There are two categories of options: Personal Options and Corporate Options:

  • Personal Options: this category provides options not shared with other members of the team, because they are mainly personal preferences and not corporate standards. This customization is saved in a file named MZTools6PersonalOptions.xml which is located in the following folder:

    Windows Vista: "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\MZTools Software\MZTools6"
    Windows 2000/XP: "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\MZTools Software\MZTools6"

Note: in non-English Windows 2000/XP operating systems, the "Application Data" folder is localized (for example, in Spanish is "Datos de programa") although the "Application Data" folder may exist too because some buggy software creates it without taking into account that it should use a localized name.
  • Corporate Options: this category provides options shared with other members of the team, that is, options that are corporate standards within an organization. This customization is saved in a file named MZTools6CorporateOptions.xml which is located in some shared network folder (there is a setting in the personal options to set the location of this file). Typically these corporate options are set or changed only by a team leader, who sets the file in read-only state after the changes. The dialog window for these options is aware of this read-only flag and provides a read-only dialog window. It is also recommended that you deny write permission in the shared folder to all the team members except the leader, so they can not change the read-only flag of the file.
